Vans Dawn Of The Shred!

On Friday me, my dad, Chris Chatt, Rich Hookes and Beckna all flew to Scotland for Vans Dawn of the Shred it was my first time back in the UK so it felt a bit weird. Every morning I would have sausage and beans which were really nice then I went up the mountain. On Saturday it was the comp we got up there and they were still shaping everything so we could only do some normal runs. It also started to get really windy up there and a bit cold so the fog kept coming and going. They finally opened the rails and we could ride them. Practice went on and then it came to the comp we did 2 kicker runs and then 1 rail run, my best kicker run was front 3 melon to back 3 tail the kickers were small so you couldn’t do much. Then on the rails I did back lip, tail-slide 270 out, 50-50 front lip and then 50-50 back 3 on the up rail and landed flat and fell. In the end  I came 2nd in my category so I was stoked!!! Well done to Sam Turnbull for winning the open category!

The next day I went up to meet Matt McCormick and Angus Trinder. Over night so many rocks had  come through they had to move the blue gas pipe so it was a flat pipe which sucked, because once you landed that you had to ollie a load of rocks and as soon as you landed you would be on the kicker for the next rail. I had such a fun last day just jibbing and messing around because everything was so sketchy then in the last half hour of the day me, Matt and Angus tried some stuff on the tyre I tried some back rodeos but kept washing out on them and Matt and Angus did some backflips I was stoked that I finally tried rodeos on a jump, it was such a fun day. In the evening we went round to Gregor Samuels house for some Haggis it was really good! Also it was really good to see Gregor walking around and chatting away, he was a guest judge aswell so he was walking around on the hill climbing up the landing of the jump doing all sorts which was really good to see! So a BIG thanks to the Samuels for an amazing tea!

I am back in the Hoff now and I checked the webcam and there is barely any snow left so the park is shut so it’s time to go up to Tux!

IRN BRU traditionally served with Haggis!!!

Windy Tree Runs :)

On Sunday I arrived at Breckenridge. I got a flight from Heathrow to Denver with Jamie Nicholls, Hamish McKnight, Sam Turnbull, Ben Kilner, Gregor Samuels, and Lewis Courtier Jones.

I had really bad jetlag the first day because I woke up at 5 o’clock in the morning and felt wide awake and then a few hours later all I wanted to do was sleep. I got my pass on the Monday and went and had some lunch with Jamie and it was freezing -20 at least!

Then on Tuesday we went for a shred it was really windy and really cold but we got on with it and rode the rails and kickers in the park and then everyone but me and Sam went down. We went and found some tree runs which were sick there were logs to jib on and some fresh snow in the trees aswell. Overall it was a good first day riding and hopefully there will be more to come !

Mayrhofen last week

Last week I went back to Mayrhofen and stayed in our new aprtment for the week which is amazing, check out the view from our living room !IMG_0499.jpg

Hamish McKnight, Jamie Nicholls, Aimee Fuller, Nelson Pratt and Sam Turnbull all came out for a few days before they went over to Pleasure Jam, I went up with them the day after it had snowed for a full day so we got to have a powder day which was really fun.

Then the next day the weather wasn’t that good but we were still able to hit the first kicker in the pro line and then we went and found a backflip kicker which was a fun session, I did a backflip and tried some rodeos which I was stoked about as I nearly have them now 🙂 Then they all went to Pleasure Jam the next day apart from Nelson and Sam so I rode with them for the rest of the week.

IMG_0506.jpgWe hit the park the first day which was fun on the big kickers then we went and did some runs on the piste. We then had a day off because it was really windy. We then had our last day up the hill just riding around because the wind had blown the snow onto the park which meant there was no speed for the kickers but it was still a good day.

Also a massive well done to Aimee Fuller (who we had to dinner at our place a few nights) for coming 2nd overall in the Pleasure Jam!!! She did a picture for Archie whilst she was at our house in return for Archie doing a board design for her, I dont think Roxy will be making the board for her any time soon, I’ll try to get a copy of the pic …..

Birthdays …. Shred …. FBBB …. Counting down the days !!!

25Jun2010_1042On Monday it was my birthday I had a great day apart from having to go to school which sucked. I just chilled at home with my family in the sun. I’m going to Les Deux Alpes in one week which is going to be sick, counting down the days !!!

On Thursday and Friday I rode at Cas. On Thursday I rode with Jamie Nicholls, Keith Povah and Big Charlie (Jonny Russel is injured so he cant ride).. I got four new tricks that night and they were cab boardslide, switch back blunt, switch back nose and half-cab 50-50 all on the down bar which I’m stoked about!!! I did a bit of filming as well and made my first ShrEdit of last week and this week. Friday was Parkstrife which was fun but everything got wrecked straight away. I rode with Jordan Gee all night which was fun I got front 5’s dialed on the kicker as well.

Saturday was FBBB at Tamworth. The park was really good there was a side on rail then a box and then a small gas pipe at the start then there was a box then a side on missile then the massive black gas pipe then a rail. Then at the end of the run there was a c-box. I had really good night I got half-cab 5-0’s on the missile and nearly got a back 1 on. I won two t-shirts and a beanie (!). Then at the end of the night I got a bag full of stuff and best of all a years Whitelines subscription. Also Whitelines held a rail jam on the missile which was fun. Sadly Sam Turnbull broke his wrist on the quarter pipe in an awful slam and now he wont be coming to Les Duex Alpes with me 🙁

Heres my 1st ShrEdit …. check the ShrEdit link too …. new site coming soon that’s gonna be sooo cool

On Saturday Castleford held a new competition called The Sno!Down it was from 5pm till 10pm. I enjoyed this comp because the park was one of the best I have seen at Cas ever ! There were 3 rails at the top then 2 kickers and a gas pipe then another 3 rails then a box. The comp started with a jam session for 2 hours the judges of this were Dom Harington and Wayne Taylor I was in the 12 and under category. The jam session determined who was the winner of the categories after the jam session there was a 1 run final to see who would win out of everyone. Throughout the whole night I rode with Jordan Gee who it was good to see because I haven’t seen him for ages. After the comp there was the prize giving I came first in my category which I was pleased about and I won a bag full of stuff. Also Jordan came 2nd in his which he was pleased about aswell also Dean Horsefield and Sam Turnbull did really well Sam won the overall and Dean won best unsponsored rider which they were really pleased about especially Sam. So overall it was a really good night and park and it was good to see other people doing well.

UPDATE: Couple of nice write ups on the event that mention me, I even got my pic onto the front page of Fear of the Park !!!! here is the Snowboardclub UK review and here is the FOTP review 🙂

UPDATED: Board Test

On Saturday I flew with Keith Povah, Si Foster, Damian Doyle and Sam Turnbull and few other people to Kaunertal. When we arrived in Munich we were picked up by Ollie Jackson and his dad and from here we drove to Kaunertal. We arrived in Kaunertal and unpacked in our hotel, I was sharing a room with Sam. The next day we went up the mountain at 8:30, when we got up there the weather wasn’t amazing but it was still a good day, the park was really good and there were a lot of rails to jib on which was cool and then a few kickers. It was good fun I did some back 5’s and front 3’s of the medium kicker I also tested the Head rocker snowboard which was really fast.

The next day we went up and the weather wasn’t very good it was cloudy and cold and you couldn’t see much but I still rode with Danny McCormick and I also rode with Dom Harrington. During the day I tested out the Union Contact bindings which were really light and really cool. In the evening we went to the town and it was really just one street ! The next day Hamish McKnight arrived and he took us up the mountain for the rest for the week. When we got up the wind was blowing over the stands and stuff it was that windy which meant that the park was slow, so the pistes were good to use with the little jibs on the side which was fun, I rode with Keith Povah and Damo and loads of others that day on this day I tested a pair of Thirtytwo boots which were comfy and warm and really light. For the next two days the weather wasn’t very good but on the last day the weather brightened up for about and hour or two. Also on the last day I rode with Sam for most of the day and I learnt frontside 180 on switch back 3 out and front 270 on 270 out on a side on butter box which I was really pleased about. I had a really fun week and I want to say a big thank you to everyone for looking after me!

Also on Saturday after 3 years Leeds United finally got promoted which was amazing there was a massive pitch invasion at the end which was funny, we were there but didn’t go on the pitch as our seats are really high up.

UPDATE: Nice write up on the shred bingo competition that Whitelines put on, I get a mention which is cool 🙂 http://whitelines.mpora.com/news/shred-bingo-emwhitelinesem-rail-jam-ii-hits-snowboard-test.html

Here’s a little shredit my dad did whilst I was away with some spare footage he had.

Brits 2010

DSC_0132.jpgSo whilst we where in Laax I competed in The Brits which was fun. We went out a week before to practice for it, whilst we where out there one of the pipe walls was cut down so I couldn’t practice pipe for a few days 🙁

First day we got our bearings back and we went to slopestyle and I got used to the kickers again then I decided to spin of the last kicker and it felt really good. Then Hamish Mcknight told me to spin of all three so I did and that was a good start to the week ! It started snowing on Monday and snowed all through the night and all day Tuesday. The next day was an amazing powder day with knee deep powder through the trees and doing some drops as well. For the rest of the week I just practised everything (during the week my mum arrived with my new board, a 2011 Stepchild Simon Chabelin which i totally love, big thanks to TSA and stepchild for sorting it so quick for me).

Monday was practise day on everything and I met Danny, Matt, Chris and Gerry Mcormick so I rode with Matt for the rest of the day which was fun, also we met the guys from Giro and have hooked me up with a helmet sponsorship ! In the evening I went to the animal house for tea (nice cooking Sonia!) and did a sticker job on my new helmet and new board. Sonia Shaw helped with my helmet and Dom Harrington helped with my board.

Tuesday was the Trespass Boardercross which was fun but I didn’t do very well in it because I fell in the semi-finals but I still enjoyed it. Then I went and practised big air and Johno Verity was filming it all, after that I rode down with Johno before we rode down he put a head cam on me and I did some drops with it on, cant wait to see the footage !

Wednesday was the Giro big air which was good to watch and compete in, the wind was quite strong but I’m used to it from Halifax. I hit the medium kicker which was still pretty big, in the comp I did back 3 and then on the second run I did back 3 mute and held the grab all the way around. After that I watched the mens big air qualifying and final which sick. Billy Morgan and Jamie Nicholls both did double cork 10’s and Sam Turnbull did well as well he did a corked back 9 and won his category. In the big air I came 2nd and Matt Mcormick came 3rd. I am stoked about getting 2nd at my first Brits.

Thursday was the Sno!Zone halfpipe which was good the pipe got a bit slushy so it was hard to get speed but i got my 5’s and 3’s in it I didn’t do very well in it but it was still fun. The mens was also good to watch Dom’s run was sick he qualified in 1st place. In the mens final Jamie (who says he doesn’t ride pipe) came 1st and he just did a back 9 from nowhere Dom came 2nd and Sam Cullum came 3rd. Also Dan Wakeham was there and he just did crippler to Mctwist all the way down the pipe as a joke and still qualified.

Friday was the last event and it was the Animal slopestyle event but it turned out to be a rail jam instead because the weather got really bad and really windy. It was still fun though I did a front board on the box and Jamie said it was the best slide of the day on it which i’m pretty pleased about. My first run was best I did front board to 50-50 board slide down on the up box then 50-50 on the step down box then stalled on the wallride. I fell on my second run which I’m a bit gutted about because if I landed I would of scored loads more than the first run. Dom did a sick double hand plant on the wall ride which look cool as well. At prize giving I came 1st which I’m super stoked about and I won a £300 K2 snowboard and I gave it to my dad.

On Saturday I went and rode some powder with Jordan Gee and Gregor Samuels. We found some little wind lips and I tried some front flips on them but I didn’t land any but Jordan landed under flips and switch front flips which is sick. Then after that it was the Red Bull Home Run which was really fun. On the way down people were slamming everywhere you looked which was funny but one guy went to hospital. Then on Sunday we drove back to Rotterdam and got the ferry home.

Now I’m back home, it really sucks because there is no snow and it’s just boring, I’ve been to the dome a couple of times and its nice to see all of my mates there, we made a little shredit to celebrate getting home 🙂

Below is a little video of Big Air day at The Brits and also the shredit from my first night back in the dome, I’ve got some amazing pics also from The Brits, will put them up later once we’ve been through them all 🙂

Black Eyes, Bloody Lips, Bad Shoulders, Back 7’s and Saas Fee!

Bad lip On Thursday we went to Morzine for the third time, we took Sam Turnbull out with us. When we got to Geneva we got a transfer to Samee and Jon from More Mountains house who let use there spare room (thanks!). Friday was the first day riding we went to the park and the pipe with Sam which was fun. Then in the afternoon we got to ride lots of powder which was really fun it was about thigh deep which was the deepest I’ve ever been in. My dad took some amazing falls and got his head buried which was funny!!!

Then the next morning was amazing, it was bluebird and I managed to get corked back 5’s and backside 720’s dialed which i’m really stoked about!!! Then in the afternoon we rode the pipe for a bit and because it snowed again we rode off piste in the powder again. We found a good off piste kicker but the landing was into a ditch, Sam did it first and said don’t do it but I did it anyway and on landing kneed myself in the face and bit all my lip. At the end of the day my lip had turned purple and had a big ulcer on it 🙁 Also that evening Quicksilver sent me an email to say that I got through to the qualifications for their Radar competition which I was stoked about:)

Next day it was bluebird again so we rode the park I did a back 7 but caught my toe edge and landed on to my face so I bit my lip again, got a black eye, a bleeding nose and a bad shoulder. After that we rode for a bit and then went to the pipe. I took it easy for the rest of the day just being safe so I didn’t land on my shoulder again.

Then it was the last day of riding  so I took it easy again so I didn’t injure myself for the Quicksilver comp. We rode the park and then after that we rode the pipe for a bit and I got the biggest I had ever been out of the pipe which was really cool! Then we did some more runs and we did some powder runs aswell. Also my dad learnt how to do 180’s on the piste which he is stoked about.

On Tuesday we drove from Morzine to Geneva to Saas Fee for the Quicksilver competition, when we arrived we weren’t allowed to go into Saas Fee because it is a car free town. We parked the car and took our bags into Saas Fee we then got a funky little van which was electric powered to the hotel. We rode in the afternoon of the next day mostly in the park most of the day just to see what it was like.

The next day it was the comp we met at the lift and got interviewed for the cameras and we then went to the park and got filmed on a few obstacles but not many it was fun though meeting new kids and riding with them. We then went back to the hotel and got some stickers and T-shirts they also gave us some goggles and a bandanna. My video will be on the Quicksilver site soon and I will put a link so you can watch it and PLEASE vote for me to win a trip to the European X Games in Tignes

Last day we shredded, we went to the top of the glacier and rode all the way down to the bottom without stopping and waiting for anyone which was fun we also got some pictures in the park on the big rainbow rail which was fun. Then we did some more runs through the park and on the piste and then we went back to the hotel packed and drove to Geneva and now I am back home for a few weeks before heading out to Laax for the Brits 🙂
