Competitions !

Been a busy past few weeks with a few competitions one after the other, the first comp being the Shred Down Austrian Masters Slopestyle in Westendorf. The comp went over two days again the first day was on the rails and then the second day on the jumps. The first day went pretty good got my run on the rails, cab 1 back 3, back blunt 270 out, front board 270 that run put me 2nd overall, then on the jumps the next day I did, cab double 9 to back 7, then cab double 9 to back double 10 but just did a little but check on the 10 but still landed it. They added the scores up and I won the rookie category and the overall category so I was pretty stoked to win both!

The next comp was the Spring Battle over in Flachauwinkl this year was the first time the comp had done open qualifications so why not go and give it a go. They built a decent sized jump at the top and there were some pretty good riders in the qualis, I had coach Billy Morgan there helping me out he was invited so I wanted to get through to ride with him I managed to land back double 10 in the comp and that put me in 9th to qualify through to the semis so that made my day! The next day was training for all the invited riders I landed my back 10 again and Billy did back triple 14 to get through to the finals. I ended up 17th overall which isn’t to bad with all the guys who were there, Billy ended up winning it with a back triple 16 which was perfect so huge well done to him!!!

The most recent comp was the Vans Hi-Standard on Saturday here in Mayrhofen, it was such a fun comp nothing over a 7 on the jump and all based on style and then a rail jam on the stairset, all the Vans UK crew were out so it was fun riding with all them again. I managed to win the overall category here as well so it was a pretty good day, won some money and had a awesome day what more could you want! We filmed an edit the day before because the weather was meant to come in so we played it safe and filmed that day instead, hope you enjoy it !

New Zealand/Australia

Last week I got back from my trip down under it was a pretty fun trip riding in New Zealand and Australia, also going around Melbourne for a few days. The trip started off in New Zealand where I was there for just under 3 weeks, unfortunately Snow Park was closed this year which was pretty gutting as it was amazing last year but Cardrona was open and had a decent park. But the weather wasn’t kind pretty much the whole time I was there so I got about a day or two on the jumps which wasn’t too good, it just meant it was rails pretty much every day but they had a good rail line so it wasn’t too bad. After a few weeks I went over to Australia to meet up with the World Rookie Fest guys to go to Thredbo with them to compete in the Rookie Fest comp. They didn’t have a very good season for snow so they could only build two pretty small jumps and a couple of rails for the comp it was a fun little course in my run I did cab 1 on then back board to fakie, switch back 5, back 7 which got me 2nd in the rookie category which I was pretty happy with 🙂

The next day it was the practice day for The Mile High in Perisher which is another resort in Australia, Billy Morgan came over with Hamish and Katie Ormerod, Katie couldn’t compete because she had injured her knee in New Zealand. The course was a lot bigger and way more fun than the park in Thredbo I think they had more snow so the could build bigger jumps, the course was, down rail or donkey kink, flat bar or gap to down, pole jam, and then 3 jumps. I had a really good practice getting my run every time so i was happy with that also doing front 10’s and 9’s already was a bonus because it was just the start of the season for me and I was happy to be doing big tricks so early! My run in the comp was back lip, tailslide 270 out, 50-50 back 3 tail grab, back 5, cab 9, front 7, on my second run I fell over but I was happy with my first. Also well done to Billy Morgan who came 2nd in the slopestyle and 1st in the big air !

We then went to Melbourne for a few days and stayed with Hamish’s family. We first went to the Zoo and saw a lot of cool animals like snow leopards and lions. We also went into Melbourne centre and it’s massive and it was really busy but cool to look around somewhere different and to have some amazing sushi, we then headed to bounce which is a trampoline place and we messed about there for a couple of hours. On the last day we went to watch and Aussie Rules match which is definitely different to any sport in England and anywhere else. It was a really fun trip but glad to be back home now and getting ready to go shred Hintertux!!!

World Rookie Fest Finals

At the start of April was the World Rookie Fest Finals in Ischgl, it was the second time I have been there. There were a bunch of kids there from all over the world like Japan, Norway and America. The course was, 2 jumps, then a choice of a jump or up pipe, hip, then a rail garden. Practice day was really nice weather everyone was throwing down, then the qualification day was pretty bad weather it was super flat light, snowy and windy and my runs didn’t go so well and I thought I didn’t qualify but the top 16 did and I came 15 which was a surprise! Finals day was banging weather hot and bluebird and the course was shaped really well. On my first run I fell over which was a bit gutting as I hurt my shoulder a bit but I carried on. My second run I landed and it was cab 9, front 7, back 7, front-side air, front board up the up rail, 50-50 front 3 on the donkey, I was really happy to put a run down as that is all I wanted to do. My third run I tried to do a back 9 but just under rotated but my second run was really clean so I was happy. I was thinking that I came about 7th or 8th but I managed to get 4th! So happy with that result so stoked the guys who were above me were 17 and 18.

Winter Mash, Glemmbang Slopestyle and New Trick!

In February two comps happened in pretty much the same week at the same resort which was Saalbach Hinterglem. The first comp they had was the Winter Mash which used to be the Wangl Tangl in Mayrhofen. It was a really fun contest as it was a team event and two people in a team, also the it all took place during night which was even cooler! I went with Tobi Strauss another Vans rider but unfortunately he injured himself during practice so I then got paired up with Michi Macho whose partner also got injured during practice. We made it all the way to the semi finals and then got knocked out by team KBR from Finland and in that team was Sami Luhtanen and Janne Lipsanen so some pretty good riders. All the riders decided to split the prize money so each rider got 410 euros!

The next event was the weekend after which was the Glemmbang Slopestyle in Saalbach again Drew Stevenson invited me to the finals so I went along and had a really good time. The course was the same as the Winter Mash course which was, down rail, kicker, kicker or up pipe, wall-ride and then a bunch of boxes at the end. First everyone had to do semi finals to get into the final and it was a jam format and the best two runs counted so I got my two runs out of the way as fast as possible so I could chill for a bit and my first run was half cab 5-0 to back 7 to front 7, nose press the top of the wall then gap back lip on the A frame box then alley oop 3 nose tap on the red bull can. My next run was cab 1 on back 1 off to cab 9, front 7 and then the same rails again. Those two runs qualified me in first place for the finals, the finals was a 1 hour jam session and your best run counted and I think my best run was cab 1 on back 1 off to cab 9, front 7, 50-50 back 3 off on the wall-ride, gap back lip alley oop 3 nose tap. I ended up winning best rookie and the overall event and I won 1000 euros STOKED!!!

I also learnt cab double 9’s the other day that I have wanted to do for ages and finally manned up and did it didn’t take to long to land so check it out

Livingo Rookie Fest

At the weekend it was the World Rookie Fest in Livingo. The first day of the competition was the practice and qualification of grom boys and all the girls and the rookie boys practice and qualification was the day after. The weather wasn’t great for the rookies qualification I landed my run a few times in the practice. I didn’t drop until near the end, my first run I had to skip the third as I didn’t land properly on the 2nd. My 2nd run I landed and that qualified me in 7th place out of the 16th finals STOKED! The next day was finals day and the weather was awful windy and snowing loads, I landed my run in practice which was fs Underflip, cab 9, fs 7, bs 7 50-50 back 3 off the pole jam. The format was three runs best run counts, my first run was a bit sketchy but I still landed it in the rubbish weather. My second run I cleaned it up so I was pretty stoked to get a banging run in the bad weather. Third run I cruised through doing methods of the jumps. I wasn’t sure how well I had done and in the end I came third which I was surprised about but so STOKED.

Here is the video from finals day.

Hotzone Groms Open

217782_582675021759311_253075848_n

On Sunday it was the Hotzone Groms Open in Mayrhofen in the Vans Penken Park. We had an hour of training and the course was down rail/box and two jumps, the weather was pretty rubbish during practice really flat light so couldn’t see a lot but when the practice finished the clouds burned off and it was perfect conditions! The qualifications was a jam format and the judges said they wanted to see style more than anything so, I just did as many runs as I could doing the most stylish tricks I could. They put the top eight riders through to the final in a three run best run counts format. My best run was cab 270 to regs, frontside under-flip into a cab 9 in the end that was enough to get me first place overall, 400 euros, Vans outerwear and an invite to the World Rookie Fest Finals in Ischgl! The video of the comp will be out pretty soon! My next comp is the Rookie Fest in Livingo hope it’s not to cold and the weather is nice 🙂

Kaunertal Opening

At the weekend I went to the Kaunertal Opening with my dad, Birgit Rofner and Jamie Nicholls. They had little snow there so the park was really small a 5 metre jump, down rail, donkey kink and a massive gas pipe at the bottom. Friday was training all day and me and Jamie managed to do about 50 different tricks through out the day on the jump and the rails like 270’s, switch back 5’s, cab 1 back 5’s and back nose press front 1’s. It was such a rad day! Saturday was comp day and we had four runs to get one good jump run and a rail run we had four runs but they changed it to three runs and then back to four. I did cab-under-flip on the jump and cab 1 back 3 to tail-slide 270 on the gas-pipe. this run got me best rookie in the comp and I won 200 euros which I was stoked about!!! We drove back to Hoff that night and the next day was Hamish McKnight’s birthday and we did das spiel and had a barbecue.

Onboard Send Off Session Coverage

In May I was invited to Kitzsteinhorn for the Onboard Send Off Session to finish off the season. I had a lot of fun there riding with all the Pros and two other rookies that were invited which were, Fridtjof Tishendorf and Micheal Schaerer who I had lots of fun riding with. I also got a shot in an issue of Onboard all about the session and in the new issue that has just come out an interview so I so stoked to get a shot and an interview in Onboard!!! Also a video came out just showing the rookies which I got some shots in it’s such a sick edit check it out!

Australia!!!

At the start of August I flew from Munich to Australia with the guys from the World Rookie Tour and Lewis Courtier Jones and Ole Christian Hagen from Norway. We stopped in Dubai on the way to Australia so we went into the city and saw all the huge skyscrapers whilst we waited for our flight to Sydney. From Sydney we drove 5 hours to Thredbo which is one of the resorts in Australia. The first 2 days were awful weather really windy and snowing. We did a night comp at Perisher on the second day and it sucked, it was super windy and snowing loads I didn’t do that well as i couldn’t get speed for the jumps. The next day was the Rookie Tour comp but it was to windy to ride the main course so we did it on the medium line which wasn’t as good, but I still got a good run of nose-slide pretzel, cab under-flip and a back 7 which I was happy with and that run got me in 4th place. The next day it was our last day riding and Sven Thorgren and Fridtjof Tischendorf joined us to do some photos in the park which was good as there was no wind that day so we rode the big park. That was our last day riding we got down and headed for Sydney.

Sydney was rad we did so much cool stuff and saw so much stuff like the Sydney Opera House, kangaroos and Koalas. We were staying in Bondai Beach which is quite famous it has a sick skate park where they have a Vans bowl comp every year and a massive beach that gets good waves. We went to a skate shop in Canberra and they gave all of us a Penny skateboard each and they are so much fun to cruise around on we went around most of Sydney on them. We tried to go surfing in Bondai but the waves were to small to catch which sucked and the water was freezing. We went to the Monster skate park for a skate session and the park was huge everything was massive! I still had fun skating there though. On the same day we went to the skate park we went and watched a Red Bull surf movie called Storm Surfers 3D, it was so GOOD the waves that the guys were getting were huge! You should definitely watch it. On the final day of the trip we went and watched a Rugby game which was cool to watch.

I am in New Zealand now with the GB team hopefully will get some good runs on the jumps and some good runs on film but, the weather doesn’t look great so we will just have to wait and see 🙂

Snowpark NZ

End Of Season Mega Post!!!

Sorry I haven’t done a blog in while been pretty lazy with it to be honest. The last few months have been so much fun!!! Firstly I landed some new tricks a few months ago just before The Brits the first one was a front 10 which I was super stoked to have landed!

The next trick was nearer the end of the season in Mayrhofen and that was a back 10 also stoked to land this!

I went to Bear Mountain in California in April with Vans for a trip to get some photos. I went with Rich Hookes, Chris Chatt, Will Smith, James North and Will Nangle. It was a super fun trip by the best I have had, the park was so much fun just rail, after rail, after rail. We also found time to go to Six Flags Magic Mountain which was crazy some of the rides were insane!!!

The best ride there X2!!!

I also went to the World Rookie Fest Finals in Ischgl which was good fun. The training day was super good bluebird weather so we could ride the jumps. The qualification day was awful weather with clouds on the course so they put on a rail jam which I won the grom category with this run in the video below. The next was finals but the weather was bad again but they decided that we should try and ride the jumps but I didn’t land my run so I was a bit gutted.

BACK T!!!

After this I came back to Cornwall for a week of school and then back out to Kaunertal for the Boardtest. The Boardtest was good fun the park was fun lots of rails and cool features and a few jumps which weren’t great to. I went and stayed with Vans again with Chatt, Dad, Victoria and Nicole. I had a really fun time there I rode a lot with Jamie Nicholls as usual but also with Chatt and Jonny Russel who I haven’t seen for ages so it was good to ride with him again. There was also the Whitelines rail jam which was fun I managed to get into the final but everyone who was in it killed it super high level of riding. Here is a clip from there.

From Kaunertal I went to Corvatsche in Switzerland just next door to St Moritz for an airbag session with the GB Team. I had a lot of fun there with everyone learning new tricks on to the airbag like double backflip, double rodeo 9, cab double 9 and back double 10. There was also a jump next to it which the tricks we learnt on the bag we could take to the jump but the jump wasn’t great it was about 16 metres and I did cab underflips and back rodeos as well. Everyone killed it at the session Billy Morgan did some cab double 10’s which is new for him. We had the whole resort to ourselves we were getting lifts to the top of the mountain of cats which was one of the mant things that made that trip awesome.

This isn't me but Markku Koski during one of the sessions. PHOTO: Lord Thomas Copsey and the iPhone of Doom !

From there I then went straight to Kitzsteinhorn back in Austria for the Onboard send off session which was sick!!! I got invited from the Rookie Fest with to other rookies which were Micheal Scherrer and Fridtjof Tischendorf. There were also so many pros there as well like Marco Grilc, Marc Swoboda, Marku Koski and so many more. They had built a huge hip and jump for the shoot. The first day it had snowed over night so we just shredded powder all day which was rad. The Hotel was sick swimming pool, spa, super nice rooms and amazing food. The next day we sessioned a pole jam and hopefully I got some shots out of that. Then later on we rode the quarterpipe and got lifts up on the back of sleds which was amazing. Then on the final day we rode the jump and hip, the take-off of the jump was at least 5 metres high so it looked amazing for photos I just did some back 7’s and tried to style them as much as possible. The hip was my favourite session it was HUGE I had so much fun riding it going big and riding with all the pros and rookies!!!

Now I’m back in Cornwall at school again just studying for my GCSE tests which sucks can’t wait to go back riding 🙂
