So I got my first coverage of the season already in two different magazines, the first one is in the first issue of Onboard, there is a full piece on the Onboard Send Off Session from the end of the season so go and get it in the shops before it’s gone! The other piece of coverage is in the first issue of Whitelines and it’s a four page piece and it’s three different trick tips and what I ride and wear to snowboard the tricks are, backside boardslide, frontside boardlside and backside lipslide. Go get it in shops now for tips on these three tricks!!!
At the start of April was the World Rookie Fest Finals in Ischgl, it was the second time I have been there. There were a bunch of kids there from all over the world like Japan, Norway and America. The course was, 2 jumps, then a choice of a jump or up pipe, hip, then a rail garden. Practice day was really nice weather everyone was throwing down, then the qualification day was pretty bad weather it was super flat light, snowy and windy and my runs didn’t go so well and I thought I didn’t qualify but the top 16 did and I came 15 which was a surprise! Finals day was banging weather hot and bluebird and the course was shaped really well. On my first run I fell over which was a bit gutting as I hurt my shoulder a bit but I carried on. My second run I landed and it was cab 9, front 7, back 7, front-side air, front board up the up rail, 50-50 front 3 on the donkey, I was really happy to put a run down as that is all I wanted to do. My third run I tried to do a back 9 but just under rotated but my second run was really clean so I was happy. I was thinking that I came about 7th or 8th but I managed to get 4th! So happy with that result so stoked the guys who were above me were 17 and 18.

On Sunday it was the Hotzone Groms Open in Mayrhofen in the Vans Penken Park. We had an hour of training and the course was down rail/box and two jumps, the weather was pretty rubbish during practice really flat light so couldn’t see a lot but when the practice finished the clouds burned off and it was perfect conditions! The qualifications was a jam format and the judges said they wanted to see style more than anything so, I just did as many runs as I could doing the most stylish tricks I could. They put the top eight riders through to the final in a three run best run counts format. My best run was cab 270 to regs, frontside under-flip into a cab 9 in the end that was enough to get me first place overall, 400 euros, Vans outerwear and an invite to the World Rookie Fest Finals in Ischgl! The video of the comp will be out pretty soon! My next comp is the Rookie Fest in Livingo hope it’s not to cold and the weather is nice 🙂
All of October I went up to Hintertux with the GB team and it was sick! The whole park is amazing up there especially the pro line two big mellow jumps in a row. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t that good for the month but on the days that we did get to ride it was rad. On the jumps I did some backside 3’s, 5’s and 7’s and also some frontside 3’s, 5’s and 7’s which I was stoked about because it was my first time spinning frontside on big jumps and I also got backside 7 to frontside 7 which was rad! Also on the medium jumps I learnt switch back 5’s which I have never done before so I was
stoked. Most of the time I was riding with Jamie Nicholls also I rode with Matt McCormick when he came out for a few days. During the last week Katie Ormerod came out and stayed with me so I rode with her some days on the mediums, she was riding sick as well. Then last Thursday I went to London Freeze Festival and we stayed in a pimping apartment. That night we went out and had the best steak in the world at a place called Santa Maria Del Sur. Then on Friday I rode in the Battle of Britain competition we only got 3 practice runs and on my second practice run I caught an edge and landed on the knuckle on my back but it didn’t hurt but it shook
me up a bit but I got back up and did it again. Then in the comp I did a method which everyone seemed to love so I was happy and I am glad that I did it. Dom Harington was there and he rode really well he got 2nd in the comp he also rode well in Hintertux when he stayed with me he was trying back double 10’s and almost landed them well done Dom. Also I got some rad new goggles from Adidas to wear in the comp they are the Adidas ID2 Pure they are sick thanks Adidas! On the Saturday it was the FIS comp and there was some sick riding just basically doubles every run. Ben Kilner did a sick back double 10 which he stomped and got through to the final. Jamie did the same trick and got through to the final as well! In the final Ben didn’t land his double but Jamie landed a back double 10 and a cab 10 and managed to get 4th well done to Ben and Jamie. The top 3 were Joris Ouwerkerk in 3rd then Seppe Smits in 2nd and Janne Korpi in first.
Tomorrow I am going to Kaunertal for the day with Tom West, Mark Ruparelia and some others then Stubai on Thursday its gonna be sick. But then I have to go back to school the week after which sucks!
On Friday it was the Protest Slopestyle which was a great day ! The course was a down bar, stall rail, down bar then a flat down box into 3 big kickers. On my first run I got all my rail tricks but then I bailed on the first big jump which I was a bit gutted about, but then I landed my 2nd run which was front board, frontside 50-50, back lip, gap noseslide, back 3, method and then a back 7 so I was stoked to land my run!
After that it was the mens qualifiers which was great to watch. They announced the 12 finalists and I qualified in 10th! We were only allowed 1 practice run which was rubbish because it had got cold and the jumps were slushy ice, it sucked. I didn’t want to do it because I knuckled the first jump and hurt my knee on the practice run but I did my first run anyway and landed it bolts so I was really really happy! We went to the bottom (in the lift cause my knee hurt so much) and got packed and then went to prize giving and I came 1st in my category and then I found out I came 5th overall I was so stoked!
We set off back to Mayrhofen with James Thorne and Chris Kightley and on the way the car broke so we had to go back to Laax which was rubbish, but we eventually got back to the Hoff. We went out to the Wald Cafe for a celebratory Schnitzel and its feeling good to be back home for some rest and to see my dog ! Great times in Laax, so stoked to see all my mates and meet a couple of my sponsors 🙂
