At the end of October I went to London Freeze Festival. I drove over from Austria with some of the GB team over night and I managed to sleep most of the journey. Me my mum, dad and brother stayed in the same place that I stayed in last year which was a big pimping apartment it was rad! The first day of the event was skiing so we went to watch a bit of that just to see how the jump looked and what the speed was. The next day was snowboarding and I was in the Battle of Britain against, Andy Nudds, Matt McCormick, Nate Kern, Dom Harington and a few others. The weather was horrible it was really windy so the speed for the jump was really slow and barely anyone was making it. We got two runs practice, two runs! Then the comp I did a back 3 tail and a back 7 but knuckled it and had to revert so I didn’t get through. Dom Harington won! Later it was the main event which Billy Morgan ended up winning!
From there I went to Modena, Italy with my dad for the Nissan StompIt big air competition. We landed in Bologne Airport and it turned out BA had left my bag in Heathrow which sucked but there was another flight so we drove to the hotel and my dad went and picked it up on the next flight. On qualification day we were meant to start at 11 in the morning but ended up starting at 5 in the evening such a long day! The jump was really nice a lot better than the Freeze jump it wasn’t to big and the drop in wasn’t to steep, I did a back 7 on my first run and landed and then tried some 9’s but kept coming up short. But I qualified in 7th to get through to the finals against, Roope Tonteri, Mathias Weissenbacher and many more I was stoked! In the finals I landed another back 7 and then tried to get a 10 but couldn’t get it around but I finished in 13th place beating Eric Beauchimen pretty happy with that so pretty happy with that result!
Here is the 3rd podcast of the season from the GB Freestyle team in America, featuring me, Sam Turnbull, Aimee Fuller, Lewis, Jamie Nicholls, Dom Harington, Jamie Nicholls, Gregor Samuels (you know we think of you everyday!), Nate Kern and Sam Cullum – enjoy 🙂
Today we woke up to see loads of fresh snow in the valley and outside our house it was like christmas!
So we stayed in for a bit and then me, my dad and Dom Harington went out and looked for something to hit I saw a little concrete hut that you could drop off so me and Dom decided to hit it we got some banging pics from it all taken by the one and only Nik Coultas (my dad)
We then walked up a bit further to find a hut with a concrete ledge outside of it but then we went round the other side to a pile of manure covered in snow that you could hip off so we built that up into a hip and had sick session on that and once again got some amazing shots on that.
Then few hours later we went over to the Hungerpain house for a rail session in there garden on a side on box which was pretty fun I took a bail on a back tail but I got back up and went and did the trick again and didn’t bail so I was pretty stoked!
Yesterday was pretty sick the clouds were high up but the park was higher so it was good. I’m now only hitting the big kickers, I spun on my 3rd run which was a back 3 and then I did a few more of them off both kickers which I am pleased about and also the best part of the day was that I land two backside 7’s off the 2nd kicker which I am so stoked about!
Sunday was rubbish weather but we made the most of it by sessioning the triple shotgun down bar which was quite long. I did some nose presses on it back lips, front boards, back blunts and more it was a fun session everybody joined in which made it a fun. So now everybody apart from me, my dad, Nate Kern and Claire Frost are the only people left but tomorrow Dom Harington comes out so it will be fun to ride with him for a few days 🙂
And lastly …. pretty stoked to get a mention in Jenny Jones’s blog, she’s been out here shredding with us for the past two weeks, its been amazing (and yes Jenny, biggest I ever hit by a long way)!!!
This week I went to Halifax twice. On Tuesday it was quite slow but it was still fun because it wasn’t windy and you could still get enough speed for the kicker. I rode with Sam Turnbull, it started to get foggy at the end which made it a bit faster. Then the next day it was really windy so I kept getting blown across when I hit the kicker which wasn’t very fun but it was still a good night.
Cas on Thursday was a good park because it was bits of the set up for the Standingsideways Sessions for the next night. I learnt frontside 270 onto the side on down box I also learnt frontside 360 on frontside 180 out which I am stoked about. Then on Friday it was the Standingsideways Sessions with features from Jonny Russell, Dom Harington and Stu Edwards. Dom had the pipe of mild peril, Stu had a perfect down bar and Jonny had a kicker to a spine to a down box which was called a Rythmic Razmataz. Overall it was a really good night and the best park we have had at Cas for ages, cant wait for Damo to do another one !
Saturday at Milton Keynes was another big air competition which was also good fun the kickers weren’t the best but it was still good because I rode with Jordan Gee. I landed all my tricks all night and got through to the final, I also landed both my final runs which were a back 3 tail grab and then and backside 540, which in the end was enough to come 3rd overall (all age groups) and won some money which I am stoked about!!!
I’m sure there will be some write ups on both events and I’ll post them here when they come out 🙂
On Saturday Castleford held a new competition called The Sno!Down it was from 5pm till 10pm. I enjoyed this comp because the park was one of the best I have seen at Cas ever ! There were 3 rails at the top then 2 kickers and a gas pipe then another 3 rails then a box. The comp started with a jam session for 2 hours the judges of this were Dom Harington and Wayne Taylor I was in the 12 and under category. The jam session determined who was the winner of the categories after the jam session there was a 1 run final to see who would win out of everyone. Throughout the whole night I rode with Jordan Gee who it was good to see because I haven’t seen him for ages. After the comp there was the prize giving I came first in my category which I was pleased about and I won a bag full of stuff. Also Jordan came 2nd in his which he was pleased about aswell also Dean Horsefield and Sam Turnbull did really well Sam won the overall and Dean won best unsponsored rider which they were really pleased about especially Sam. So overall it was a really good night and park and it was good to see other people doing well.
UPDATE: Couple of nice write ups on the event that mention me, I even got my pic onto the front page of Fear of the Park !!!! here is the Snowboardclub UK review and here is the FOTP review 🙂
On Saturday I flew with Keith Povah, Si Foster, Damian Doyle and Sam Turnbull and few other people to Kaunertal. When we arrived in Munich we were picked up by Ollie Jackson and his dad and from here we drove to Kaunertal. We arrived in Kaunertal and unpacked in our hotel, I was sharing a room with Sam. The next day we went up the mountain at 8:30, when we got up there the weather wasn’t amazing but it was still a good day, the park was really good and there were a lot of rails to jib on which was cool and then a few kickers. It was good fun I did some back 5’s and front 3’s of the medium kicker I also tested the Head rocker snowboard which was really fast.
The next day we went up and the weather wasn’t very good it was cloudy and cold and you couldn’t see much but I still rode with Danny McCormick and I also rode with Dom Harrington. During the day I tested out the Union Contact bindings which were really light and really cool. In the evening we went to the town and it was really just one street ! The next day Hamish McKnight arrived and he took us up the mountain for the rest for the week. When we got up the wind was blowing over the stands and stuff it was that windy which meant that the park was slow, so the pistes were good to use with the little jibs on the side which was fun, I rode with Keith Povah and Damo and loads of others that day on this day I tested a pair of Thirtytwo boots which were comfy and warm and really light. For the next two days the weather wasn’t very good but on the last day the weather brightened up for about and hour or two. Also on the last day I rode with Sam for most of the day and I learnt frontside 180 on switch back 3 out and front 270 on 270 out on a side on butter box which I was really pleased about. I had a really fun week and I want to say a big thank you to everyone for looking after me!
Also on Saturday after 3 years Leeds United finally got promoted which was amazing there was a massive pitch invasion at the end which was funny, we were there but didn’t go on the pitch as our seats are really high up.
Last Friday me and my dad went to Morzine to meet up with Dom Harrington. When we got to the chalet we were staying in there was no one there so we got changed outside and went up the mountain, it was red hot so it was T-shirt and hoodies all weekend. We got back to the chalet moved our bags to our room and chilled. Dom arrived at 10:30 from Chamonix.
next day we met up with Kate Foster and Dan Milner and then went up the mountain we waited for Paddy Graham and Johno Verity for ages but they turned up late. We went to the Stash and had a quick look through to see what was good to hit and get good pics on. First we hit a wall ride got some good pics on that, then we hit the up down rail and then moved on and hit loads more stuff and got loads more pics which are sick!!!
The next day we went riding with Duncan and Amy for the day we went and saw this massive kicker also on the way up on the chair lift Dom perforated his eardrum so he couldn’t ride for the rest of the day. So me Dunc and my dad rode the park for the rest of the day. In the evening we had a table tennis tournament which was fun to do. The next day we left Treeline Chalets (thanks for letting us stay Dunc and Amy !!) and came back home. It was an amazing weekend.
Little video we made, just playing about with Premiere really …. but some action from the table tennis comp in there 🙂
