I went over to flacahuwinkl for the Spring Battle comp, this year it was a slopestyle event instead of the usual big air, it was a cool format you filmed the best run on the course and handed that run in. Congrats to Billy on getting 2nd!!! Here is my run that got me 8th:
I went to Slovakia for the Sony Snowboard Fest big air competition, It was a pretty cool comp and the resort was fun to go cruise around. The jump was good and the format of the comp was different to others i’ve been to, you had to do a 720 or more in the qualis to make it to the semis, then in the semis it was a jam format and you told them what run you want to be judged and in the final it was 3 runs best two tricks count. I all the way through to the final and my runs in the final were, back double 10, cab double 9 and cab double 10. I was stoked to land all my runs and was even more stoked to finish 2nd!!!!

Last week I got back from my trip down under it was a pretty fun trip riding in New Zealand and Australia, also going around Melbourne for a few days. The trip started off in New Zealand where I was there for just under 3 weeks, unfortunately Snow Park was closed this year which was pretty gutting as it was amazing last year but Cardrona was open and had a decent park. But the weather wasn’t kind pretty much the whole time I was there so I got about a day or two on the jumps which wasn’t too good, it just meant it was rails pretty much every day but they had a good rail line so it wasn’t too bad. After a few weeks I went over to Australia to meet up with the World Rookie Fest guys to go to Thredbo with them to compete in the Rookie Fest comp. They didn’t have a very good season for snow so they could only build two pretty small jumps and a couple of rails for the comp it was a fun little course in my run I did cab 1 on then back board to fakie, switch back 5, back 7 which got me 2nd in the rookie category which I was pretty happy with 🙂
The next day it was the practice day for The Mile High in Perisher which is another resort in Australia, Billy Morgan came over with Hamish and Katie Ormerod, Katie couldn’t compete because she had injured her knee in New Zealand. The course was a lot bigger and way more fun than the park in Thredbo I think they had more snow so the could build bigger jumps, the course was, down rail or donkey kink, flat bar or gap to down, pole jam, and then 3 jumps. I had a really good practice getting my run every time so i was happy with that also doing front 10’s and 9’s already was a bonus because it was just the start of the season for me and I was happy to be doing big tricks so early! My run in the comp was back lip, tailslide 270 out, 50-50 back 3 tail grab, back 5, cab 9, front 7, on my second run I fell over but I was happy with my first. Also well done to Billy Morgan who came 2nd in the slopestyle and 1st in the big air !
We then went to Melbourne for a few days and stayed with Hamish’s family. We first went to the Zoo and saw a lot of cool animals like snow leopards and lions. We also went into Melbourne centre and it’s massive and it was really busy but cool to look around somewhere different and to have some amazing sushi, we then headed to bounce which is a trampoline place and we messed about there for a couple of hours. On the last day we went to watch and Aussie Rules match which is definitely different to any sport in England and anywhere else. It was a really fun trip but glad to be back home now and getting ready to go shred Hintertux!!!
A couple of weeks ago was the Vans Hi Standard Big Air comp in Mayrhofen and the format was nothing over a 720 was allowed and it was all based on style and if you did a trick the judges liked you were given 20 euros so the more tricks you did the judges liked the more money you got. They also had a rail jam with the same format but you could do any tricks you wanted. I got the best under 16 rider which I won 200 euros and over the big air and rail jam I won 320 euros stoked!
Here is the video,
At the end of October I went to London Freeze Festival. I drove over from Austria with some of the GB team over night and I managed to sleep most of the journey. Me my mum, dad and brother stayed in the same place that I stayed in last year which was a big pimping apartment it was rad! The first day of the event was skiing so we went to watch a bit of that just to see how the jump looked and what the speed was. The next day was snowboarding and I was in the Battle of Britain against, Andy Nudds, Matt McCormick, Nate Kern, Dom Harington and a few others. The weather was horrible it was really windy so the speed for the jump was really slow and barely anyone was making it. We got two runs practice, two runs! Then the comp I did a back 3 tail and a back 7 but knuckled it and had to revert so I didn’t get through. Dom Harington won! Later it was the main event which Billy Morgan ended up winning!
From there I went to Modena, Italy with my dad for the Nissan StompIt big air competition. We landed in Bologne Airport and it turned out BA had left my bag in Heathrow which sucked but there was another flight so we drove to the hotel and my dad went and picked it up on the next flight. On qualification day we were meant to start at 11 in the morning but ended up starting at 5 in the evening such a long day! The jump was really nice a lot better than the Freeze jump it wasn’t to big and the drop in wasn’t to steep, I did a back 7 on my first run and landed and then tried some 9’s but kept coming up short. But I qualified in 7th to get through to the finals against, Roope Tonteri, Mathias Weissenbacher and many more I was stoked! In the finals I landed another back 7 and then tried to get a 10 but couldn’t get it around but I finished in 13th place beating Eric Beauchimen pretty happy with that so pretty happy with that result!
So I arrived in Laax on Sunday with my dad and James Thorne. On Monday it was the practice day so I went and practiced slopestyle and then moved over to big air. The next day I went and practiced slopestyle again and got back 3, back 3, back 7 then I moved over to big air and did some back 7’s on the jump also I did some photos with Giro which was good fun. Then today it was the Giro big air we got an hour of practice on the jump so I did some more back 7’s and tried some back 9’s but didn’t land any. Then in the comp I landed a back 7 and then went for a back 9 on my second run and just under rotated it but I was still stoked to land it. After the comp I went riding with Matt McMormick just doing the rail line to the bottom which was sick. Then we watched the mens and it was sick one guy did a triple backflip and nearly landed it CRAZY!!! Then at the bottom prize giving went on and Chris McMormick won his catergory and I came 2nd in my catergory and Matt came 3rd also Sam Turnbull came 3rd overall and Chris Kightley came 2nd overall so well done everyone it was a fun day!
First it was the British Snow Tour Big air at Milton Keynes it was a lot better than last years kicker. It was a good day practice started at 11:45 and finished at 12:45 I was riding with Matt McCormick all day which was sick. In the comp my safety run was a back 3 tail grab which I landed and then for my second run I landed a back 5 tail grab which I was stoked about and finally I went for a 7 but there wasn’t enough speed so I knuckled it which I laughed about because I landed my 5. In the end I got first place which I was stoked about also well done to Jordan Gee for getting 2nd in his category and 3rd overall. Then after MK we went to Tamworth for the High 5 tour which was good fun but the rails were huge and I took a big slam on the donkey kink which hurt because it was really icy but it was still a good night all the rails were sick my favourite feature was the bench I did a back lip a back nose press a 5-0 and a noseslide on it which I was stoked about. In the end I didn’t win anything but I still had a good night.
The first day was the slopestyle which was really slow which made it rubbish the park was flat down or gas pipe to a box or a up rail then a rainbow or flat down or an up flat down or a side on gas pipe. My run was frontboard the flat down to front 1 on switch back 1 out to 50-50 noseslide tail tap out I came first in my category which I am stoked about.
Then the next day it was boardercross on the dendex which was good I came first in my heat which meant I won my category for boardercross which I am also stoked about. Also on the same day it was the Giro big air which was really slow but I managed to get some 5’s of it and a 7 that I slipped out on which I was a bit gutted but I managed to get 2nd place and a massive well done to Jordan Gee for winning with his sick underflip 7.
So in the end I got two golds and a silver which I am stoked about.
This week I went to Halifax twice. On Tuesday it was quite slow but it was still fun because it wasn’t windy and you could still get enough speed for the kicker. I rode with Sam Turnbull, it started to get foggy at the end which made it a bit faster. Then the next day it was really windy so I kept getting blown across when I hit the kicker which wasn’t very fun but it was still a good night.
Cas on Thursday was a good park because it was bits of the set up for the Standingsideways Sessions for the next night. I learnt frontside 270 onto the side on down box I also learnt frontside 360 on frontside 180 out which I am stoked about. Then on Friday it was the Standingsideways Sessions with features from Jonny Russell, Dom Harington and Stu Edwards. Dom had the pipe of mild peril, Stu had a perfect down bar and Jonny had a kicker to a spine to a down box which was called a Rythmic Razmataz. Overall it was a really good night and the best park we have had at Cas for ages, cant wait for Damo to do another one !
Saturday at Milton Keynes was another big air competition which was also good fun the kickers weren’t the best but it was still good because I rode with Jordan Gee. I landed all my tricks all night and got through to the final, I also landed both my final runs which were a back 3 tail grab and then and backside 540, which in the end was enough to come 3rd overall (all age groups) and won some money which I am stoked about!!!
I’m sure there will be some write ups on both events and I’ll post them here when they come out 🙂
So whilst we where in Laax I competed in The Brits which was fun. We went out a week before to practice for it, whilst we where out there one of the pipe walls was cut down so I couldn’t practice pipe for a few days 🙁
First day we got our bearings back and we went to slopestyle and I got used to the kickers again then I decided to spin of the last kicker and it felt really good. Then Hamish Mcknight told me to spin of all three so I did and that was a good start to the week ! It started snowing on Monday and snowed all through the night and all day Tuesday. The next day was an amazing powder day with knee deep powder through the trees and doing some drops as well. For the rest of the week I just practised everything (during the week my mum arrived with my new board, a 2011 Stepchild Simon Chabelin which i totally love, big thanks to TSA and stepchild for sorting it so quick for me).
Monday was practise day on everything and I met Danny, Matt, Chris and Gerry Mcormick so I rode with Matt for the rest of the day which was fun, also we met the guys from Giro and have hooked me up with a helmet sponsorship ! In the evening I went to the animal house for tea (nice cooking Sonia!) and did a sticker job on my new helmet and new board. Sonia Shaw helped with my helmet and Dom Harrington helped with my board.
Tuesday was the Trespass Boardercross which was fun but I didn’t do very well in it because I fell in the semi-finals but I still enjoyed it. Then I went and practised big air and Johno Verity was filming it all, after that I rode down with Johno before we rode down he put a head cam on me and I did some drops with it on, cant wait to see the footage !
Wednesday was the Giro big air which was good to watch and compete in, the wind was quite strong but I’m used to it from Halifax. I hit the medium kicker which was still pretty big, in the comp I did back 3 and then on the second run I did back 3 mute and held the grab all the way around. After that I watched the mens big air qualifying and final which sick. Billy Morgan and Jamie Nicholls both did double cork 10’s and Sam Turnbull did well as well he did a corked back 9 and won his category. In the big air I came 2nd and Matt Mcormick came 3rd. I am stoked about getting 2nd at my first Brits.
Thursday was the Sno!Zone halfpipe which was good the pipe got a bit slushy so it was hard to get speed but i got my 5’s and 3’s in it I didn’t do very well in it but it was still fun. The mens was also good to watch Dom’s run was sick he qualified in 1st place. In the mens final Jamie (who says he doesn’t ride pipe) came 1st and he just did a back 9 from nowhere Dom came 2nd and Sam Cullum came 3rd. Also Dan Wakeham was there and he just did crippler to Mctwist all the way down the pipe as a joke and still qualified.
Friday was the last event and it was the Animal slopestyle event but it turned out to be a rail jam instead because the weather got really bad and really windy. It was still fun though I did a front board on the box and Jamie said it was the best slide of the day on it which i’m pretty pleased about. My first run was best I did front board to 50-50 board slide down on the up box then 50-50 on the step down box then stalled on the wallride. I fell on my second run which I’m a bit gutted about because if I landed I would of scored loads more than the first run. Dom did a sick double hand plant on the wall ride which look cool as well. At prize giving I came 1st which I’m super stoked about and I won a £300 K2 snowboard and I gave it to my dad.
On Saturday I went and rode some powder with Jordan Gee and Gregor Samuels. We found some little wind lips and I tried some front flips on them but I didn’t land any but Jordan landed under flips and switch front flips which is sick. Then after that it was the Red Bull Home Run which was really fun. On the way down people were slamming everywhere you looked which was funny but one guy went to hospital. Then on Sunday we drove back to Rotterdam and got the ferry home.
Now I’m back home, it really sucks because there is no snow and it’s just boring, I’ve been to the dome a couple of times and its nice to see all of my mates there, we made a little shredit to celebrate getting home 🙂
Below is a little video of Big Air day at The Brits and also the shredit from my first night back in the dome, I’ve got some amazing pics also from The Brits, will put them up later once we’ve been through them all 🙂
