Just to say Christmas is nearly over and I got some great gifts and had a fun time but I can’t wait to go back to Avoriaz tomorrow with my dad to ride the pipe and the park which is going to be really fun. I’m staying out there with Dan and Nadine until 2nd January! I haven’t started packing yet but pretty much know from last week what I need so I will start in the morning and should get it done in no time.
Here’s a clip from Xmas Eve of me and Jamie Nicholls playing on a street rail over in Halifax 🙂
So last Sunday me, Faye Young, Jordan Gee and my dad flew from Liverpool airport to go to Geneva. When we got to Geneva airport half of it was shut because of a bomb scare which meant we had to walk all the way around the airport to get to the taxi which was rubbish ! I fell asleep in the taxi and when i woke up the first thing I said was ‘ SNOW ‘. When we got to the chalet we met Danny McCormick, Gregor Samuels, Calum Paton, Jen, Mark Raper and Ollie Jackson. We went and unpacked in are room and had some tea (which were amazing all through the week).
Day 1 we woke up at 7:30 got ready had breakfast and met Dan Wakeham after breakfast we finished getting ready put our boots on and packed our boards into the minibus but me and my dad and some others got into the other car, I had to sit in the boot because I was the smallest ! When we got to the lift it was packed with people which made it a bit cramped. We got off the lift strapped our boards on and road down to the park chair lift. When we got ot the top of that chair we rode to the park and I was the first person to hit the boxes which felt really nice then I hit the kickers which were the best kickers I have ever hit. When I got used to the kickers I started spinning of them and got my back 5’s dialed. We rode down to a local supermarket to have lunch then in the afternoon we just rode around the mountain and did some off piste which was amazing fun. At the end of the day we got picked up went home chilled and got into the hot tub.
Day 2 was a nice bluebird day with good visibility for the park and the kickers were just as good. I rode the kickers most of the day and I got back 5’s to cab 3’s and I also got a couple of back 7’s which I am really stoked about. After we had tea that evening Dan and Hamish Mcknight (who was one of the other coaches) came and talked about bio-mechanics with us it was about the technical side of snowboarding which was very interesting and makes you think a lot more about why and how stuff happens.
Day 3 Will Nangle did a video of me we which is amazing and has been put on Whitelines !! (and is embedded at the bottom of this post), also on the same day I learnt hand-plants which were quite hard to do but fun at the same time. after doing hand plants we moved on to do a trick tip video for Mpora on how to do a front-side board-slide which was fun we used a follow cam and and some pictures which are sick.
Day 4 started well with clear skies, we went up on a chair lift and did some more off piste with Dan which was really fun . After that we went to the park which was fun again but then it started to go dull and it wasn’t good visibility for while but it got better so I worked more on my 7’s and 5’s. After lunch we hit the rails (mostly the flat down rail) which was smooth and really nice to hit.
Day 5 we took the chair lift up again but we couldn’t go to the same off piste spot as yesterday because it was a white out which wasn’t good and meant we couldn’t spend much time in the park either. After a few runs we went to get some lunch from a cafe called Changabang which did nice food (but was well expensive!). After that most people went down to the chalet apart from me, my dad, Gregor’s dad Mark and Gregor. We found an off piste run through knee deep powder and through trees which was really fun, also on the same run we found a log that could be used as a rail which was fun to hit. Then when we got back Mark had built a kicker up to a balcony to stall on, but I found a bomb drop of the balcony which was fun my dad got some sick pics of it and he rang Nick Atkins who came came round to take some pics of it and he got some amazing pics. Then we did another drop which was about 20ft which looked fine until you got up there to do it but when you looked at the drop it was quite scary, again Nick got some wicked pics of this that I can’t wait to share 🙂 Also Dan and Hamish came round again to tell us about what judges look for and after that we made a list of what to do and Dan and Hamish would judge the runs.
Day 6 was the last day of riding which sucked because the week went so quick but it was a good day we went to the park to practise our judging runs and then we did them but the first kicker in the park had been made 6ft bigger which was annoying because we had made our runs around the kickers throughout the whole week. but we carried on with it anyway I did some 7’s of it and some 5’s. Then after we did our kicker competition runs we went back to the Changabang for lunch and then back to the park for our competition rail runs which were fun and after that the weather was getting really bad so we went back down to the chalet. That evening we built a kicker and a pole jam and we sessioned them for a while then we went back in and watched Neverland and some Family Guy.
Day 7 we went to Stew’s house (Stew did all the camp official videos) to see his video suite and some of the videos he had done of the One Snowboarding camp and the we went to town but there was nothing to buy there so we went back to the chalet and then we got picked up to be taken to Geneva airport when we were there we looked around the airport shops and we had something to eat. Then when we got onto the plane and then I remembered that we forgot to bring the gifts on with us and it was snowing so much they closed the runway for 3 hours and then they had to deice the plane which took about 45 minutes which was really annoying. When we got to Liverpool Barry took us back to his house to get our car and then went home.
Overall it was an amazing camp with amazing accommodation and it really was fun + I learnt some new tricks which is always a bonus !! The review of the camp on the One Boarding site can be found here and here on the More Mountain site.
Anyways it’s Xmas eve and I’m lucky enough to be going back out to Morzine on the 27th, so I best go chill with the family.
Quick post to announce a couple of new sponsors that are gonna be helping me out with stuff.
1st up is Grenade who have invited me to join their UK team, super stoked about this, they make sick gloves and if you look at whos involved in the company / team its a pretty amazing group of people !!
2nd up is More Mountain who provided the amazing chalet for the One Snowboarding camp, Sam and Jon are gonna be helping me out with stuff when I’m over in Morzine / Avoriaz which I am super grateful for as it can only mean more mountain time 🙂
Tuesday I went to fax (first time in a couple of weeks), when I arrived it looked like it was raining but then I realised it was proper snowing!!! which meant it was really fast.
Then on Wednesday we went to Cas for a big park but it was really busy with students which meant I didn’t get loads of runs 🙁 I got to ride with Mark Raper and Boxy which was fun though!
On Thursday and Friday I went to Cas again to shred, same park as Wednesday. It was another couple of fun nights the best run I did was 360 hand plant to back 3 to front 3 to 180 on cab 1 out on the big gas pipe !
On Saturday I went to Tamworth with Katie Ormerod, Mark Ormerod and my dad for the Santa Cruz Rookie Night. It was a fun night and a good setup they had like a 6ft wall ride with a box on top which was fun. I didn’t get through to the final but Katie did and did an amazing run but didn’t win. But overall a good night!
UPDATE: Fear of the Park article on the night can be found here, check the pics there’s a great one of me frontsidin the wall ride !
This week no comps just shredding at Fax and Cas and then I will be going to Morzine on Sunday which will be so much fun!!!
UPDATE: Here are some pics from the event that have just come through.
On Thursday I went to Cas. I had a fun time again, they had the 3m rail, high rail, a kicker, flat down down picnics gas pipe, 10m, jib section and a box. My favourite thing to hit was the high rail which I learnt cab 180 on 180 out and cab 180 on 360 out and cab 180 on 180 tail grab out. I also got tail side 270 out on the pipe.
Then on Friday we went to Hemel for an Animal Snow Camp session which was really fun. I rode with Dom Harrington for the night which was amazing, they had a big kicker with a big gap in between the kicker and the landing which was a bit scary. They also had 2 boxes to make an up flat, flat up flat rail, gas pipe, box and a side on rail which I learnt back lips which I am stoked about.
Then on Saturday night we went back over to Cas for a thing called park strife which was sick. It was meant to go on till 1 0’clock in the morning but it finished at midnight instead, Jordan Gee came over from Wigan to shred Cas style. The park for it was the street rail with steps next to it, high rail, small gas pipe, picnic tables, c- rails, 2 kickers, big gas pipe, 10m, jib section and a box. On the street rail I learnt back lips and on th big gas pipe i learnt 270 on 270 of which I am really stoked about.
This week I hope the wind stays down so I can get over to Fax and we might go up to Scotland on Saturday for the Lowlander but it depends on how much stuff we have to do to get ready for the One Snowboarding Camp on the 13th in Morzine !!
This weeks videos have got loads of the Cas crew in them ….
On Thursday we went to Cas to shred, there was 3 kickers, spine, s box, side on box and the 10 metre. It was a fun night Jonny Russell did some filming with me. Also I got a new trick off the kicker which was cab 5’s which I am so stoked about. Also I got back board to switch 50-50 front 180 out and on the s box i got front lip to switch front blunt 270 out, Jonny chassed Si Foster round the car park with a belt after the shred, it was sooooo funny !
The next night we went to chill Factor for the DC night. The setup was OK they had a street bar, rail, box, 2 kickers, up box and a spine. It was another good night even though there were no DC riders there (get well soon Sam !). The kicker was good but it wasn’t as good than the one at Advita night, but anyway I still managed to get a new trick of the kicker which was front 5’s which I am again stoked about!!! After that we followed Jordan and Barry Gee to Wigan to stay over there for the night so we could set off early the following morning.
The next day we woke up early to meet Jordan and Barry in the Premier Inn car park to drive to Glasgow for the Lowlander at Bellahouston. When we got Scotland we went to pick up Marc McClement from his house to take him there. When we got to Bellahouston it was raining really badly but that was a good thing as it made the slope really fast. We got changed into our gear and went to ride. When we got onto the slope you couldn’t see the kicker it was that small but they had a lot of rails out. The first two runs were judged on kicker and quarter pipe and the other two runs were judged on the rails. I managed to get through to the final 5 which I was pleased about. In the finals you had the same amount of runs 2 on the kicker and quarter and 2 on the rails but because it was running late we only had 1 run on the rails. In the end I didn’t manage to place in the top 3, Matt McCormick came 1st who was killing it all day long!!! Also Danny McCormick came 2nd in 16 and over who was also killing it all day and Marc McClement came 1st in the 16 and over!!! All in all a totally sick day up in Scotland, can’t wait to get back up there 🙂
Sunday we went over to Rossendale for the 1st time for the King of the Kicker Competition.
It was my first time at Rossendale so I didn’t really know what to expect. When I arrived I couldn’t see the freestyle park all I could see was a big dendex slope with a huge quarter pipe. The park was right at the top so you had to walk up about a hundred steps to get there. They have a new snowflex kicker that’s about 6ft maybe bigger which was is pretty nice, but the run in is a bit small and the landing is weird !
Anyway I managed to land all my qualifying runs really easy, even though it was dead slow and sticky but I still managed to get through to the the under 16’s final where I eventually finished 2nd behind my mate Jordan Gee who threw a sick front 5 on his last run. So I’m pretty stoked with that as I won 10 pounds and some clothes !

On Friday got to ride at Halifax with Dom Harington who is also sponsored by Animal.
He brought with him a guy called Luke to take some pictures and another sick rider called Dan. I can’t wait to see the pictures that Luke got, my dad took some that you can see here. Dom and Dan were killing it to say they haven’t ridden dry slope for ages, Dom was doing some corked 7’s and 5’s also he did a back flip on his 3rd run!!! Dan was doing some crazy stuff like back flip 180’s, back flips and some front 3’s!!!
My dad left the camera running all day to capture all the tricks we did!!!
When we finished at Fax we headed down to the Burton Scrap Metal, the drive down there was rubbish we were stuck in queues all the way down there we still managed to get down there on time though. When I went on to the slope I found Jordan Gee to shred with which was good fun but the park was a bit mental with huge gaps onto the side on rails. I managed to get on to one of them and front board it. The winner of the women’s category was Katie Omerod who was riding really well doing front blunt 270 outs on the down bar which looked sick. In the men’s category it was Si Foster in 3rd place, then a guy called George Wooley but in first place was Johnny Russell who landed a a sick backside 360 on to the down bar. So overall it was a good night!!!
That night we stayed over in Hemel Hemsted. My dad drove up a spiral road to the car park but it was closed so he had to reverse all the way back down it LOL. The next day we went home thinking it would take us 3 hours but the it ended up taking us about 7 hours!!!
