On Friday me, my dad, Chris Chatt, Rich Hookes and Beckna all flew to Scotland for Vans Dawn of the Shred it was my first time back in the UK so it felt a bit weird. Every morning I would have sausage and beans which were really nice then I went up the mountain. On Saturday it was the comp we got up there and they were still shaping everything so we could only do some normal runs. It also started to get really windy up there and a bit cold so the fog kept coming and going. They finally opened the rails and we could ride them. Practice went on and then it came to the comp we did 2 kicker runs and then 1 rail run, my best kicker run was front 3 melon to back 3 tail the kickers were small so you couldn’t do much. Then on the rails I did back lip, tail-slide 270 out, 50-50 front lip and then 50-50 back 3 on the up rail and landed flat and fell. In the end I came 2nd in my category so I was stoked!!! Well done to Sam Turnbull for winning the open category!
The next day I went up to meet Matt McCormick and Angus Trinder. Over night so many rocks had come through they had to move the blue gas pipe so it was a flat pipe which sucked, because once you landed that you had to ollie a load of rocks and as soon as you landed you would be on the kicker for the next rail. I had such a fun last day just jibbing and messing around because everything was so sketchy then in the last half hour of the day me, Matt and Angus tried some stuff on the tyre I tried some back rodeos but kept washing out on them and Matt and Angus did some backflips I was stoked that I finally tried rodeos on a jump, it was such a fun day. In the evening we went round to Gregor Samuels house for some Haggis it was really good! Also it was really good to see Gregor walking around and chatting away, he was a guest judge aswell so he was walking around on the hill climbing up the landing of the jump doing all sorts which was really good to see! So a BIG thanks to the Samuels for an amazing tea!
I am back in the Hoff now and I checked the webcam and there is barely any snow left so the park is shut so it’s time to go up to Tux!
The past two days it has been the Snowbombing competition up the mountain which has been really fun. Yesterday was the highest ollie comp, it was flat light but still a good session ! It was a whippy jump with a pole to clear and I think I managed to clear about 180cm which I was pretty amazed about ! They then raised it higher and it was to high so I just jumped into it and fell, Henry Jackson then asked the crowd if they wanted me to do it again and everyone just went YEAAAAAAAAHHHH! I went back up and it was even higher and just jumped into it again. Then it was the water slide so I dressed up as Batman and went for it, it was so much fun doing cab 1 into it !!!!
Then today it was cash for tricks, everyone just had fun doing some fun tricks and all the bombers were bailing. One guy really hurt himself and had to go off in a helicopter which was pretty bad so they closed the jump and opened the waterslide and I won 5 euros on it and I won 5 euros on the jump so in the day I won 10 euros YAY! Also this week a big box arrived and inside was 3 new Stepchild snowboards!!! Thanks alot Stepchild!
It has started to turn into summer now with temperatures nearly reaching 30 degrees, so up the hill all the snow is melting and it is never cold anymore, I think its time to head up to Hintertux! Then tomorrow I have to get up at 5:00 in the morning to get a flight from Munich to Gatwick and then to Inverness for Dawn of the Shred, gonna drink some Irn Bru made from gurders!
Here is the 2nd podcast of the season from the GB Freestyle team in Hintertux, Dachstein and at London Freeze, featuring me, Sam Turnbull, Aimee Fuller, Lewis, Jamie Nicholls, Nelson Pratt and Jenny Jones – enjoy 🙂
Last week I went back to Mayrhofen and stayed in our new aprtment for the week which is amazing, check out the view from our living room !
Hamish McKnight, Jamie Nicholls, Aimee Fuller, Nelson Pratt and Sam Turnbull all came out for a few days before they went over to Pleasure Jam, I went up with them the day after it had snowed for a full day so we got to have a powder day which was really fun.
Then the next day the weather wasn’t that good but we were still able to hit the first kicker in the pro line and then we went and found a backflip kicker which was a fun session, I did a backflip and tried some rodeos which I was stoked about as I nearly have them now 🙂 Then they all went to Pleasure Jam the next day apart from Nelson and Sam so I rode with them for the rest of the week.
We hit the park the first day which was fun on the big kickers then we went and did some runs on the piste. We then had a day off because it was really windy. We then had our last day up the hill just riding around because the wind had blown the snow onto the park which meant there was no speed for the kickers but it was still a good day.
Also a massive well done to Aimee Fuller (who we had to dinner at our place a few nights) for coming 2nd overall in the Pleasure Jam!!! She did a picture for Archie whilst she was at our house in return for Archie doing a board design for her, I dont think Roxy will be making the board for her any time soon, I’ll try to get a copy of the pic …..
Here is the 1st podcast of the season from the GB Freestyle team in Hintertux, I now am on the GB freestyle programme as an elite junior which is pretty cool ! it means I get to train with all the adult riders like Jamie Nicholls and Jenny Jones !
Yesterday was pretty sick the clouds were high up but the park was higher so it was good. I’m now only hitting the big kickers, I spun on my 3rd run which was a back 3 and then I did a few more of them off both kickers which I am pleased about and also the best part of the day was that I land two backside 7’s off the 2nd kicker which I am so stoked about!
Sunday was rubbish weather but we made the most of it by sessioning the triple shotgun down bar which was quite long. I did some nose presses on it back lips, front boards, back blunts and more it was a fun session everybody joined in which made it a fun. So now everybody apart from me, my dad, Nate Kern and Claire Frost are the only people left but tomorrow Dom Harington comes out so it will be fun to ride with him for a few days 🙂
And lastly …. pretty stoked to get a mention in Jenny Jones’s blog, she’s been out here shredding with us for the past two weeks, its been amazing (and yes Jenny, biggest I ever hit by a long way)!!!
Today was another sick bluebird day the sun was shining. I am totally stoked about today because I was spinning of both kickers and also today I got some back 7’s with grabs of the second medium jump which I am soooo stoked about 🙂 Also today I did some cab 5’s of the small jumps and I rode the whole day switch so I can hit bigger jumps switch without falling or carving up the lip on the take off. Also today I saw Paddy Graham who is a skier that rides for animal and I also saw Andy Nudds and Billy Morgan. There are so many pros here today I people like Marko Grilc, Peetu Piiroinen, Antti Autti and so many more !! Ipod a.k.a Iouri Podladtchikov threw down a switch backside double cork 1080 which is sick. I am so stoked to be out here seeing all these pros and learning new tricks I just don’t want to go home and back to school 🙂
The past few days haven’t been very good because the weather was really bad which meant that not much really happened apart from on the windy day I jumped in the river which was glacier water which was really cold. But today was sick because you could see the park and you could hit the kickers which were sick. Also the other night Hamish McKnight, Jenny Jones, Nick Atkins, Ben Kilner and Jo Howard all arrived. I only hit the mediums today because it was so hot it was all slushy and the snow at the restraunt had all melted away ! I did some back 3’s and back 5’s off them which I am stoked about. At about midday it got slow and I couldn’t clear the kickers. Also on the pro line people were busting out huge tricks like double back rodeo 1o’s and double corks and I saw a backside 1260 which looked sick. Should be good tomorrowbecause it is going to be sunny again which means that it will be kickers all day which will be sick!!!
So this week has been sick first of all I got put on the StepChild UK Team which I am stoked about !!
Then on Thursday I came out to Hintertux with my dad and Jamie Nicholls for 3 weeks ! Today I got my tirol season lift pass which is sick!!! My dad left his goggles down in the house so he had to go all the way back down from Hintertux to Mayrhofen and get them so I went up with Jamie. We got to the top of the park and the weather wasn’t very good because it was cloudy and I couldn’t see a thing but, there was snow everywhere 🙂 We just cruised through the park having a look at the jumps and riding the rails, the park is so sick! We cruised down to lift station and went to the restraunt and I met Kevin Backstrom and Gerome Mathieu which was pretty cool. After that we met up with my dad again and went riding. At the top I met Wojtek Pawlusiak which was sick! At the bottom of the of the run to the lift there is a big pole jam which was sweet Jamie busted out some huge back 1’s and 3’s and I did some back shifty’s of it you go soooooo big of it and the pipe was mellow but landing was quite flat which sucked.
So today is officially the start of the SEASON!!!!!!!! 🙂
