In August I headed over to London to meet up with the Vans UK guys and also some of the European team including, Sami Luhtanen, Kalle Ohlson and Arthur Longo. We took them on a mini tour to show them where we rode in the domes and dryslope. We started at Milton Keynes for a fun shred there and then the next day went to a dryslope to show them what it was like to ride on, they got the hang of it pretty quick. Then we went into London, and got onto a boat for a tour around London on the Thames with everyone from Vans like Steve Van Doren, Geoff Rowley, Christian Hosoi and loads more every team was there! After that it was time for the opening of the House Of Vans which is a sick place underneath Waterloo station, with a skatepark, music and artwork.
It was a sick few days shredding and seeing London and the House Of Vans, check out the video !
I have been back in London for the past week or so for two rail jams the first one was the O’neill Shoreditch Showdown. I drove over from Austria to do the comp, In the morning I went to the Oakley HQ which was sick to see all the new goggles and sunglasses they are making. Then, mid afternoon we went over to the place where the comp was being held, the setup was really good bit different but fun to ride loads of different options to hit and get creative. So after qualis they picked the top 12 riders for the finals which I managed to get in to so I was pretty happy about that! Then in the final everyone killed it, I didn’t make it to the top 4 but I had fun and was stoked to see everyone ! Here is a quick edit Will Nangle made from the event:
After the comp I went back up North to see my family and have a go on my uncles quad bike around his farm and chopped some wood for the fires which was a good few days to chill before going back down to London for the Freeze Fest. I first went to Milton Keynes and stayed with Chris Chatt to ride and get warmed for the comp. I then got on a train to Clapham Common for the Freeze to practice on the setup for the Battle of Britain comp. The setup was sick and was quite big as well which was cool and it made it more challenging plus there were lots of gaps to rails to do to get creative, Everyone killed it in the B.O.B comp and the top ten made finals and the top 4 made it to the international. I made it into the international comp with all the sick riders like Kas Lemmens and Wojtek so I was so stoked just to be riding with them guys! Jamie Nicholls smashed it as always and won so well done to him ! Here’s a vid from the B.O.B comp:
On Friday I drove from Truro to Hemel for the Nike Chosen Series first stop at Hemel. They had built a 13 metre kicker which is quite big for indoor! We were allowed on the slope at half six but couldn’t hit the jump so I had a few runs on the rails to warm up because I hadn’t ridden for nearly two months. I finally hit the jump when it opened and it was quite wippy. As the comp went on some good tricks were being put down Andy Nudds was rippng some front sevens off the toes and the heels, Sam Cullum was doing some crazy inverted back 7 nose grabs. I did some back 3 tail grabs and a back 7 tail grab and a couple of front threes. I managed to get into the final top ten with Jordan Gee, Andy Nudds, Angus Leith, Jesse Smith, Scott Penman, Marc McClement, Sam Cullum and others. In the final I did some back 3’s tried some back 7’s but couldn’t land them so I did a method instead and a couple of front 3 melons and some front 5’s which was good. Nuddsy did a massive front 10 and Jesse and Marc both did doubles! Jamie Nicholls didn’t turn up in the end as he was to busy doing snowboard stunts in Stuttgart! In the end Nuddsy won the overall and is now invited to the overall final. Going back to Mayrhofen soon but my dad managed to get an infection to a wound in his arm which sucks and has delayed us from going back 🙁
I am back in the UK now, down in Cornwall and the weather has been good (so far), so I have been surfing and it has been sick! Also on Friday I got the train from Truro to Halifax to go ride Cas with Jamie Nicholls which was rad, I learnt loads of new tricks like Front Blunt to regs, Front 1 on cab 3 off, Cab 1 on Back 3 out and back 1 on switch back 1 back on to the gas pipe which I was stoked about. Then the next day it was Jamie’s 18th Birthday Party which was also good fun we skated the mini ramp that he had built in his garden and it was sick, there were some rad skaters there who killed it all night like my Vans team mate Lois Pendlebury, Dave Walker, Will Smith, Thrashmore and many many more. I had a such a fun night. The next morning I packed my stuff and started the 8 hour train journey back to Cornwall a big thank you to Jamie and his Parents for letting me stay 🙂
I also went to Milton Keynes a few days before that for the FBBB TrickBusters event, it was a rad setup. It was a cool format as well it was 1 hour practice, 1 hour jam and then the final, but in the final the judges picked tricks out of a hat and the riders had to do them and it was the person who landed the most tricks won. Some of the tricks were a bit stupid like hardway 360 on and method to frontboard. I won a girls jacket which is just what I have always wanted ….. 🙂
First it was the British Snow Tour Big air at Milton Keynes it was a lot better than last years kicker. It was a good day practice started at 11:45 and finished at 12:45 I was riding with Matt McCormick all day which was sick. In the comp my safety run was a back 3 tail grab which I landed and then for my second run I landed a back 5 tail grab which I was stoked about and finally I went for a 7 but there wasn’t enough speed so I knuckled it which I laughed about because I landed my 5. In the end I got first place which I was stoked about also well done to Jordan Gee for getting 2nd in his category and 3rd overall. Then after MK we went to Tamworth for the High 5 tour which was good fun but the rails were huge and I took a big slam on the donkey kink which hurt because it was really icy but it was still a good night all the rails were sick my favourite feature was the bench I did a back lip a back nose press a 5-0 and a noseslide on it which I was stoked about. In the end I didn’t win anything but I still had a good night.
I flew back from the One Snowboarding camp in France with Jamie Nicholls, Sophie Nicholls and Katie Ormerod, we landed at Stanstead and my dad gave us all a lift home. It sucks being back there is nothing to do ! there is no luge or volleyball, it rains most of time it just sucks!
I went to Halifax for the first time in about a month or two last week, it was good fun, really fast and it poured down for about 10 minutes. This week I’m going to Cas on Thursday and Friday and then on Saturday I’m going to Milton Keynes for FBBB with Jordan Gee.
Sunday I’m going to France for a week but not to go snowboarding which sucks 🙂 I’m going with my family and my Uncle Nigel and my Auntie Jo. I’m looking forward to go on holiday again it should be good fun!
On Saturday Castleford held a new competition called The Sno!Down it was from 5pm till 10pm. I enjoyed this comp because the park was one of the best I have seen at Cas ever ! There were 3 rails at the top then 2 kickers and a gas pipe then another 3 rails then a box. The comp started with a jam session for 2 hours the judges of this were Dom Harington and Wayne Taylor I was in the 12 and under category. The jam session determined who was the winner of the categories after the jam session there was a 1 run final to see who would win out of everyone. Throughout the whole night I rode with Jordan Gee who it was good to see because I haven’t seen him for ages. After the comp there was the prize giving I came first in my category which I was pleased about and I won a bag full of stuff. Also Jordan came 2nd in his which he was pleased about aswell also Dean Horsefield and Sam Turnbull did really well Sam won the overall and Dean won best unsponsored rider which they were really pleased about especially Sam. So overall it was a really good night and park and it was good to see other people doing well.
UPDATE: Couple of nice write ups on the event that mention me, I even got my pic onto the front page of Fear of the Park !!!! here is the Snowboardclub UK review and here is the FOTP review 🙂
Not much gone on this week just been chilling on the trampoline and doing some shredding. I rode @ Cas on Thursday with Keith Povah as usual and we made our weekly shredit (sorry for the bad language!!) thenFriday with Jamie Nicholls, Si Foster Jamie also did a little shredit and I did some filming with Si and Jamie which was fun (read about it here).
When the weather isn’t very cold or wet I can’t really go and ride Halifax because it is slow and they have no water sprinklers turned on, so instead I just go on my trampoline or go skate. On Saturday I went to skate at Skaterbeach which is an indoor skate park in Osbaldwick in York. I had really fun time riding the miniramps there and learning new tricks. But unfortunately it is closing down on the 30th of April so go along and skate before it closes its amzing and has amazing owners.
Also in 5 days I’m going to the boardtest in Kaunteral for a week which will be sick, the pictures of the park look amazing and will get to ride with some folks I haven’t seen for ages ….. so it’s going to be sick!!!
On Thursday we went to Cas which was OK the park was small but it was fun still I rode with Keith and Stu Edwards and big Charlie and Si Foster it was a good night I learnt butter up 180 on switch back 3 off on the spine and back 180 on switch nose press cab 180 out. Also during the night we did some filming and made a little shredit out of it (see below).
Friday I went to Jordan Gee’s house to stay for the night we went and rode at Chill Factor which was good apart from the big kicker wasn’t open that night but still it was a good shred. I got all the 1’s, 3 360’s and a back 5’s on the medium kicker which was good practise for the competition. We left our bags in Subvert and it was locked when we came out so I had to borrow Jordans clothes the following day which were massive on me !
The next day was the Oakley Grom Games which was great fun, the setup was the best I think I’ve seen for an indoor comp, nice work ! It was a 3 hour jam session on everything that was out so I rode with Matt McCormick during that which was fun because I don’t get to ride with him that often. For the final hour they opened the big kicker which helped me because it meant I could go bigger and get bigger spins of it and slower spins of it. I manged to get 5’s on it and big 3’s. When it finished they did the prize giving and I won my category, I won a pair of custom Oakley goggles that say Grom Games 1st on them, a cap, a T-shirt and some stickers. I then got invited back to ride in the final which was sick but I didn’t get into the super final but Jordan did which was so cool. At the end of the night there was a special prize of a 50 inch TV which to two people qualified to win, and Jordan was one of them ! To make it fair they played Rock Paper Scissors and Jordan won it which he is so stoked about. Overall it was a great competition and a good time, cant wait for the next one !
My little brother (and me) also got to meet Jenny Jones who was there judging for the evening, at first he didn’t want a picture with her and then realised he did ….. which made him get quite upset, check the pics !
UPDATE: Check out the video from the night, you’ll see me right at the start on the gas pipe and the full write up of the even can be foud here 🙂
After the BEO I came back home and am back to riding at Cas and Halifax again.
Last Tuesday I went Halifax for the first time again and the kicker was TINY compared to the BEO kickers !!! That night I tried corked back 5 mutes but didn’t land any. Went to fax again the day after and tried some more corked 5’s and still didn’t get them :(.
Then we went to Cas for the first time this year and saw Jonny Russell, Alec and Gary, it was good but it felt weird compared to the mountain because of the snow, it felt slow but it was fun. Jonny taught me backside 5-o frontside 180 out (check out the video below) !!! We went to Cas again on the Friday and I learnt backside 270 on to the side on box.
I want to say a massive well done to Jamie Nicholls at the BEO for getting through pre qualifying then qualifying then semi-finals to the final and placing 13th overall!!!!!!! so a BIG well done to Jamie, check out the video of his runs below.
And finally, another video from the Onesnowboarding camp has been released and put on Whitelines (all of the videos from the riders on the camp are here, check em out!) it’s been done by Stewart Monk who’s based in Morzine and I hope we can do some more stuff with him soon 🙂
